The kennel

A unique breed, presented honestly.

A small-scale program in Montérégie focused on health, temperament and the CKC standard. Members of the Canadian Kennel Club and the Basenji Club of Canada.

« To patiently raise healthy, balanced Basenjis true to their breed — and to walk alongside every family with honesty, before and long after their puppy comes home. »Our vision

Our approach

A thoughtful, evolving journey

Our goal is to share the Basenji in a way that is honest, respectful and realistic. It is a truly unique yet demanding breed that isn’t the right fit for every lifestyle. Understanding its nature is key to building a balanced, lifelong bond between a dog and its family.

Our program is growing thoughtfully, step by step, with great care given to selecting our breeding dogs. Health, temperament and adherence to the breed standard guide every decision we make.

Because the Basenji is a primitive breed, temperament is at the heart of our choices. We look for balanced, sound dogs who fit seamlessly into family life, while preserving the distinct character and qualities that make the breed so special.

Above all, this breeding journey is a thoughtful and evolving commitment, one that stays faithful to the true essence of the Basenji.

Conformation

Showing as an evaluation tool

Conformation is part of our approach: it lets us honestly assess each dog’s strengths and areas for growth against the breed standard.

We take part in Canadian Kennel Club shows across Canada, with an eye toward eventual AKC events in the United States.

Health testing

No compromise on health.

All our breeding dogs will be bred only from two years of age and tested under the OFA protocol to earn their CHIC number. We also run additional tests to make sure they pass on the very best to their puppies. No dog will be bred with a missing or failed test.

« Orion developed crystal stones in his bladder (cystinuria). Because this is a genetic issue, we decided to neuter him and not to collect his semen. Orion will not have any offspring at our kennel. »

Transparency means sharing the hard results too.

Contract

A clear commitment on both sides.

Our contract is drafted with the help of a professional to protect both the kennel and the family. It is shared only once a family has been accepted into our family pool.

It is an official Canadian Kennel Club non-breeding contract, with spay/neuter required around 12 months of age.
