Everyday chewing
A natural activity that meets a real need — and what to offer your dog.
Like all dogs, Basenjis need to chew — it’s in their nature. If you don’t give them a healthy outlet, your dog will find something to sink its teeth into, guaranteed.
Every day I give all my dogs a short-to-medium chew (bully sticks, cow or pig ears, collagen sticks, cheek rolls, etc.), and I leave long-lasting chews available around the house at all times (goat horns, calf hooves, antlers, yak cheese, etc.).
Never give your dog rawhide. This matters: the manufacturing process is extremely toxic, and over time it will harm your dog’s health.
Basenjis are fairly intense chewers — true power chewers. I like to offer chews in different shapes to make the activity last longer and keep it challenging.
